IN DEATH SHE SAVED SEVERAL LIVES Urmila was a young woman of 26 years. She lived happily in a small two room house with her husband Dinesh Kumar and Pooja her 11 months daughter at C-491, Karn Vihar, Kirari, Suleman Nagar, Delhi 110086. There house had become dilapidated. They decided to change the roof of the front room. Unfortunately, on 07.02.2015 the roof of the other room fell down. It killed Pooja and seriously wounded Dinesh and Urmila. Urmila required to be treated at Super specialty Hospital. Therefore, Girish Chand a neighbor with Shri Mukesh Kapoor and Shri Brij Nath Sinha of Sewa Bharti organized help to transfer Urmila to Shri Balaji Action Medical Institute Paschim Vihar, New Delhi. Urmila’s condition worsened. She was declared brain dead. The doctors advised the attendants that Urmila’s organs could be donated to save several lives. Husbnad Dinesh, has lost his legs and was admitted to another hospital. Dinesh and his parents resolved to donate Urmila’s body for organs donation. Balaji Hospital had a bill of about Rs. 2,00,000.00. It was conveyed to Shri Raj Kumar Gupta, President of the Hospital that Urmila’s body was to be donated for transplanting her organs and saving lives. Graciously, and voluntarily, Shri Raj Kumar Gupta decided to waive off its entire bill. Dadhichi Deh Dan Samiti (DDDS) coordinated the donation with All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). It was with active cooperation of Dr. Mahesh Chandra Mishra, Director AIIMS and Shri Sudhir Gupta of DDDS that the body was shifted to AIIMS on 14.02.2015. Dinesh, who has lost his legs came into an ambulance to Balaji Hospital to sign his consent for donation of Urmila’s body. Shri Rajeev Maikhuri of AIIMS informs that Urmila, in her death has saved various lives. Her kidneys, corneas and heart valves have been transplanted to the needy patients. Her liver was sent to ILBS for transplantation. DDDS pays its humble homage to Urmila and gratitude to the husband Dinesh Kumar and his parents Shri Shamsher Bahadur and Smt. Phoola Devi for their decision to donate Urmila’s body.
